This has been driving me nuts for weeks now, so why not network the debug process a bit?
I've got this weird focus loss issue where active windows will lose focus for several seconds then blink back in focus, or in the case of a full screen game, it will minimize for no reason. It's downright infuriating in games like GTAV that get really pissy about minimizing and like to crash when bringing it back up.
It happens with any focused window, app or game. Even my browser will do it, steam chat windows will do it, IRC (hexchat) will, and any game I've played during the time I've noticed this. Again when fullscreen it'll effectively alt-tab, or if it's windowed/borderless window it'll lose focus briefly.
I run a combination of Malwarebytes and MSE/defender, neither of which have picked up anything shady over multiple deep scans. I've scoured my process list and cut down everything non-essential, checked my services and disabled anything I don't need (including nVidia's streaming stuff most recently highlighted by GTAV fixes... though my 560 doesn't support it anyway) and checked the event viewer for any clues as to what is stealing focus. I got nothin' in three months of investigating.
I'm about to say fuckit and install Win 8.1 instead, but I don't want to do a straight upgrade from 7->8.1 on the same drive because every time I've done that it was a pain in the ass. I'd much rather budget a 128GB SSD and do a fresh install, move my stuff over/back up, then wipe the 64gb SSD and give it to my dad for his OS with a fresh 8.1 as well.
So fellow nerds, any ideas?

Well first off, don't get windows 8. That would be a gigaaaaantic mistake..
Occasionally when my games alt+tab it's because windows is trying to change it's theme to make the games run better because it's taking up too much memory. It could be related to that?

Disable Aero and see if that helps

Plenty of free memory, and it happens for all windowed and fullscreen programs, not just games. Aero on or off makes no difference, unfortunately. I've pretty well covered all the causes I can think of at this point.
There's nothing particularly bad about Win 8.1, I've been running it on other systems for a while now. The only inconvenience is installing over top of an existing OS install, which I try to avoid. I'll probably just live with the weird focus loss issue until Win 10 officially launches and get a free upgrade though.

are you on a laptop? If so, try disabling your track pad. with windows 8, when u move anything the size of twofingers or more across that pad it thinks your trying to swap screens.
