So, I gave in and bought my own copy of the game Thursday night. I've been watching it streamed and seen Thrabalen playing it enough that I finally decided I wanted a piece of it too.
Initial impression was: how in the world am I going to play this with slideshow vision in potato mode? It ran so horribly that I was starting to regret my decision...
Turns out my tried and true Nvidia driver was at fault. The 331 version I've been using for 1+ years was due for a change. I'd only kept it this long because that version was said to run Planetside 2 well (and it did, until the last Halloween event update F*ed me out of the game), and I tend to stay with something when it works and is stable.
So, long story short, if anyone wants to try this game out and is having graphics problems, go get the 350.12 Nvidia driver! My game runs really nicely now. Granted, I haven't turned many settings up, I just wanted to play some for a bit. I'll be trying higher settings again tomorrow. But that driver version actually lists itself as being designed to help with GTA V, and so far I can confirm that.
Sometime soon I'll probably jump in with you guys, when I get a bit more practice in the game. It's been years since I played San Andreas (never played the ones between that an 5), so I'm rusty.
Anyway, toodles!
